Recently, I got a chance to sit down with one of my favorite rock frontmen, Matt Heafy, at the legendary Crocodile Rock Cafe in Allentown, PA (my hometown, I might add). Heafy is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of\u00a0Trivium<\/a>. Trivium is with\u00a0Roadrunner Records<\/a> and\u00a0is one of the biggest bands in the world right now. Their new album, <\/span>In Waves<\/em>, debuted at #13 on the Billboard Top 200 and #1 on the Billboard Hard Rock Chart. <\/span>In Waves <\/em>is the evolution of heavy. It’s a well-rounded record that finds the band showing all their strong points; mixing violent riffs and beautiful melodies. In my opinion, it may be Trivium’s best outing, and its definitely some of Heafy’s best vocal work (not to mention he’s a monster guitar player as well). The title track, “In Waves”, is absolutely brutal and sets a new standard for heavy metal as we head into the second decade of the new\u00a0millennium. The music video for the song is visually epic, and Matt and I chatted about the concept of the video in the interview. Trivium is currently on tour with\u00a0Dream Theater<\/a>, and\u00a0this show at Croc Rock was the band’s only headlining show of the tour. The band took full advantage and played a blistering 1 hour and a half set. They played all the hits and pulled out some songs from the archives (way deep in the archives, as you’ll find out in the interview…). Heafy was a force as always, and he even came out into the crowd for 1 song! Now, that’s metal! Matt is a rad dude and it was awesome getting a chance to sit down with him. Next time I catch up with him, i’ll have to ask him to teach me how to scream “IN WAVESSSSS” like he does!
